HOUSING EDUCATION AND COUNSELING

Education is the cornerstone of success for the SAAHC “People Helping People” program. Buying your first home can be a complicated and confusing process. Learning together with other first time homebuyers can make the process fun and exciting.

Unlike most counseling groups who offer the training in one or two long workshops, our trained counselors teach this course in seven (7) different sessions. The topics include:

    1. Welcome and Orientation
    2. Understanding Your Credit
    3. Know Your Lending Institution
    4. Understanding Your Commitment
    5. Understanding Property Taxes
    6. Insurance   
    7. Moving Into Your New Home and Construction

The group meets once a week for seven (7) weeks to thoroughly discuss each topic and ask questions. People tend to retain information better if it is reinforced several times over a longer period of time. WE have been helping families get into their first home for fifteen (15) years. During that time, our participants have a slightly less than 2% foreclosure rate!
