On December 5th, 2024, San Antonio Alternative Housing Corporation, with the help of the city of San Antonio, hosted a ground-breaking event for their newest project- The Memorial Apartments, which will be bringing another affordable housing option of the city’s West side.
The ceremony kicked off with live music by Mariachi Azul de San Antonio on the front porch of the former Memorial Funeral Home. Immediately following the performance, SAAHC Executive Director, Keith Newcomb spoke about the plans for completion of the project and explained the process so far.
Councilwoman Teri Castillo of District 5 and Mayor Ron Nirenberg both spoke at the event, acknowledging SAAHC’s contributions to affordable housing options in San Antonio and standing behind the city’s contribution to the project through the 2022 Affordable Housing Bond.
After the speeches commenced guests enjoyed fruit, pastries, tea and coffee on the front lawn of Memorial funeral home, and the ceremonial dirt-turn commenced on the new construction site.
San Antonio Alternative Housing Corporation plans to have their latest affordable housing option ready for new residents by June of 2025.
